Pain never lasts forever. It is, however, the one thing that is self affirming. Every emotion we feel is fleeting and ever-changing. We’re like butterflies that experience constant cycles of transformation – wrapping our pain into a cocoon, processing it, our brains turning into mush while we experience every stage of sadness until we unravel to see the world. Our wings exposing the most beautiful version of ourselves. Pain is replaced with realization and we carry on throughout the journey of life with new knowledge and the wisdom to keep our shit together. For now. Then the whole thing starts all over again, but knowing this cycle is half the battle.
Booskie shared with me the one thing that brought her through a difficult childhood and a divorce that almost broke her – knowing that it wouldn’t always be like this. Pain and triumph go hand in hand. They are constant reminders that we aren’t in control of a damn thing.
